The Step UP! Bystander Intervention Program Facilitator Training

Would you like to minimize problems and create a safe and healthy community on your campus? Problems are preventable with bystander intervention! Learn why hundreds of colleges, universities, high schools, and other organizations are using Step UP! — the award-winning program that teaches students how to intervene in problematic situations.

This intensive two-day conference (Monday May 14, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. (9-10am registration, breakfast on your own) and Tuesday May 15, 8 a.m. – noon) held at the Hyatt Recency Orlando International Airport will show attendees how to create a sustainable and powerful bystander intervention program on their campus.

We all have a responsibility to Step UP! when we notice a problem. Step UP! is a proven, research-based training program and curriculum that has won national acclaim (NASPA Gold) and been mentioned in articles in, among others, The Washington Post, on ESPN.com, and featured in NCAA Champion magazine. Many schools have adopted it campus-wide.

Since its 2008 release, hundreds of colleges and other organizations are now using Step UP! — the award-winning bystander intervention program that teaches students how to intervene in problematic situations including alcohol abuse, hazing, depression, sexual assault, discrimination, anger, eating disorders, academic misconduct, and more. This is our fourth national conference, offering training dedicated to preparing administrators and other professionals to facilitate Step UP! All attendees will receive the latest PowerPoint training along with the updated Facilitator Guide.

NCAA Sponsorship

The NCAA Sport Science Institute will accept applications for a partial scholarship to support attendance at the 2018 Step UP! Bystander Intervention Facilitator Training to be held May 14-15, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. The NCAA will offer a partial scholarship to 30 schools (two attendees per school). APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

The Step UP! Bystander Intervention Facilitator Training is a two-day event, which provides resources for athletics and student affairs professionals to work in partnership to promote student-athlete wellness through bystander intervention training.

The NCAA will provide a partial scholarship that will cover hotel accommodations at the Orlando Hilton for selected teams from NCAA member institutions to attend the training. Each team must consist of one athletics department representative and one student affairs representative.

Individuals selected for the partial scholarship will agree to serve as a resource for their institution, assist others in conducting Step Up! Bystander Intervention Training, and submit a post-participation report detailing their implementation efforts.

All participants must pay a registration fee of $100.

The deadline to apply for a scholarship to attend the Step UP! Bystander Intervention Facilitator Training is now closed.

Selected participants will be notified no later than February 1, 2018. For more information regarding the scholarship, please contact Mary Wilfert at 317-917-6319.
