Training can do more than prepare people to respond in a single moment—it can help shape the kind of community we want to create together.

Research supports bystander intervention as an effective prevention strategy. Step UP! trainings provide practical, research-informed approaches to recognizing concerning situations, supporting others and building cultures rooted in care, accountability, and action. Whether participants are new to bystander intervention or looking to deepen their understanding of systems thinking and lasting culture change, each training offers interactive learning, reflection, and realistic strategies for stepping up.

Train-the-Trainer Foundational Training

Foundational Training introduces participants to the Step UP! approach for recognizing concerning situations and responding in ways that are thoughtful, effective, and aligned with personal and community values. Guided by the Step UP! framework, participants learn why people sometimes hesitate to act, variables that influence decision-making, and how to move from awareness to action. Through guided discussion, videos and tailored scenarios, you'll leave confident, equipped and ready to facilitate.

Train-the-Trainer Advanced Training

Beyond the Basics takes Step UP! to the next level. It deepens understanding of bystander intervention by examining the broader systems and influences that shape behavior over time. Using systems-thinking tools, participants learn to look beyond isolated incidents to understand underlying factors, that can either reinforce harm or drive positive change. The emphasis is on strategic thinking and equips participants to apply Step UP! principles more intentionally within complex settings.

General Training

General Training provides an accessible, interactive introduction to Step UP! for audiences who want practical tools and shared understanding, without preparing participants to facilitate or train others. Designed for students, staff, teams, or community groups, this session focuses on recognizing moments that call for action, navigating common barriers, and practicing realistic ways to support others. The training reinforces that everyone—regardless of role—can contribute to a safer, more caring, and more accountable community. Included is a PDF of the training and robust supplemental materials.
